Thirteen people lost their lives in a horrific road accident at the Migaa black spot along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway on Friday at around 2 AM. According to preliminary reports, a trailer ferrying coffee seeds suffered a brake failure, lost control, and collided with a matatu, trapping the passengers inside.
Tragic Incident Details
The accident unfolded when the trailer, en route to Eldoret, rammed into the matatu, resulting in the immediate death of all occupants on board. Additionally, two individuals in the accompanying lorry also succumbed to their injuries. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, the victims could not be saved. The bodies have since been moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy and further investigations.
Police and Community Response
National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Michael Muchiri warned motorists to exercise extra caution when approaching the Migaa area, a location notorious for road hazards. “That area is a known black spot, and we urge motorists to be cautious when approaching there,” Muchiri stated.
In response to the tragic incident, the Kenya Red Cross has set up a tracing and psychosocial support desk at Molo Sub-County Hospital Funeral Home. This initiative aims to help families cope with their loss and receive necessary support during this difficult time.
