Wajir MCA Yussuf Ahmed Tolfiyow, who was held captive for six months, has shared chilling details of his abduction during protests in Kenya. In an exclusive account, a relative of the MCA revealed that Yussuf was confined in the same building as other missing individuals from Kitengela, including Bob Njagi, though held in a separate room. The family member recalled that Yussuf could hear Njagi’s screams from his cell—a grim reminder of the brutal conditions they endured.

A Lengthy Ordeal
Yussuf was initially held in Nairobi along with several other captives for the first two months before being transferred to an undisclosed location. According to the family, his captors eventually released him by dropping him off at Pangani Shopping Center around 9:30 p.m., along with Ksh 5,000, and sternly warned him not to look back. Terrified, Yussuf obeyed, eventually making his way home to Eastleigh where he reunited with his family around 11:00 p.m.
Community Response and Investigation
The safe return of Yussuf has brought immense relief to his community in Wajir. Northeastern leaders, including Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, expressed joy and gratitude, noting that the community had endured months of uncertainty and prayed for his safe return.
In a related revelation, former abduction victim Bob Njagi confirmed during a February 2025 appearance on the JKL Show that he had been detained in the same building as Yussuf. Njagi recalled, “I had the opportunity to peep through the keyhole, and I saw him,” corroborating Yussuf’s account.
The incident occurred on September 13, 2024, when armed men in two unmarked Toyota Land Cruiser Prados ambushed the taxi carrying Yussuf along Enterprise Road as he was traveling from South C to Pangani. As of now, investigations are ongoing, with the family demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the abduction.
A Call for Justice
Human rights organizations have also weighed in, calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Yussuf’s abduction and the harsh conditions of his captivity. As the community rallies for justice, authorities are under increasing pressure to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences of such traumatic incidents.
